HORSES FIGHT TO DEATH KANSAS CIT Mo May 22 A fight to the death reminiscent of the battle between the stallions Ralph and Free Lance years ago at George J Longs Bashford Manor Stud in Kentucky took place here this morning between Quarter Deck and Shasta Pebbles the floor and narrow confines of a truck furnishing the battle ground The par ¬ tition separating the two horses on the truck transporting them to Riverside Park went down before the hoofs of Shasta Pebbles and with the barrier out of his way he attacked Quarter Deck The latter fought back with teeth and hoofs and finally both horses went down before the heavy batter ¬ ing Shasta Pebbles got to his feet but Quar ¬ ter Deck was so badly injured he had to be destroyed Shasta Pebbles suffered only minor cuts and bruises
