ROYAL OAK HANDICAP FIELD Best Handicap Horses in Motor City Named for Saturdays Fair Grounds Feature. DETROIT, Mich., July 13.— An even dozen of the best handicap horses quartered here were named this morning for the ,500 added Royal Oak Handicap that will be decided at one mile as the feature of the half-holiday program. Naturally there was some disappointment when Young Brothers crack Fiji was not entered, but as the filly did not ship any too well from Latonia, trainer Tom Toung deemed it best to give her a short rest. She has had a long and exacting campaign, one that has carried her to victories in the Kentucky Oaks, the Latonia Derby and on last Saturday she added the Latonia Oaks to her score. Her absence from the field makes it one of the best balanced to go postward here and in addition to those handicap stars that have been seen under colors at different periods since the start of the spring meeting here, the Audley Farms Signalman, considered one of the leading juveniles of 1933, will be making his Detroit debut. Mr. Sponge, handicap star of the inaugufal meeting here last fall, which is rounding to his best form, will carry top weight of 114 pounds. That is two more than the weight alloted Fred Alger, Jr.s, Detroit-owned Sa-bula, which has made her presence felt in all of the stakes decided here this year. The Royal Oak is well supported by the fifth race, that engages some of the top-notch performers from the claiming ranks. The feature is the sixth event of an eight-race program. Post time for the first race is 2:15 oclock. The field for the handicap in order of post positions, with weights and probably jockeys, follow: PP. Horse. Wt. Jockey. 1 — tTerrier 105 C.
