LEXINGTON FAST FOR TRIALS Hughes Fillies in Fastest Gallops of Morning -J. C. Milam Signs Jockey Mack Garner. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 17 Three rainless days have dried out the Lexington track to the extent that it was hard and fast in most places, except on "the hill." A number of horses were set down for stiff workouts. Probably the fastest trial of the morning was that of two fillies in the stable of the veteran Grover C. Hughes. The three-year-old fillies. Aria and Wise Bessa, working together with Aria several lengths in front of the Wise Counsellor filly, went over the hill five furlongs in 1:02, under a stout pull, finishing at the stand. Aria is a three-year-old filly by Ariel Grey Lady, dam of Grey Coat. She has never started, but her works indicate that she is in a class with the stakes winner Wise Bessa. Hughes will ship his stable to Louisville Friday of this week. In addition to Aria, which he owns, and Wise Bessa, property of Dr. D. B. Knox, he will take to Churchill Downs his own Cero and Glamorous, Mrs. Eleanor Wells Good Return and W. F. Hausmans Ridge Blond. A. Lee Darnaby this morning vanned seven horses owned by himself and Mayor Charles R. Thompson of Lexington, to Louisville. The Darnaby stable is reputed to be farther advanced in its training than most of the other strings which have trained here. J. Cal Milam, veteran of many successful campaigns, this morning verified the report that he will have Mack Garner under contract this season. He plans to ship ten head from the Kentucky Association track to Louisville next Monday morning. The stable is composed of seven horses owned by Milam himself, and three two-year-olds the property of former Sen. Johnson N. Camden. Several years ago the Camden-Milam combination was one of the most successful in American racing.
