VEE EIGHT, prominent all the way, wore down FLAG BEARER to take the lead after leaving the back stretch and, drrwing clear, had to be placed under punishment and was doing his utmost to hold PROSECUTOR safe. The latter, away fast,"was steadied along in pursuit of the pace, came to the outside of the leader in the stretch and was slowly wearing him down at the end. FIRE REEL, unable to keep pace early, finished with good energy. TIGHT WAD, outrun early, came through on the inside at the stretch turn and closed c;amel v. STAROGAN, permitted to settle into her best stride and slightly reserved until rounding the -far turn, moved up fast on the inside, drew into a good lead before straightening into the stretch and was never seriously threatened. EUCLID improved his position steadily, saved ground at the head of the stretch and closed gamely. IMMUNE responded gamely to urging and closed stoutly on the outside through the last eighth. DE VALERA made up ground. THE BOUNCER, well placed early, tired. DOVE OF PEACE raced well for the first half mile, tiring thereafter. WEST STAR was never prominent. CIVIL WAR, well placed early and hard ridden in an effort to keep up, faltered through the last eighth. LOVITO was never prominent. The latter was forced to circle the field when making his effort, responded gamely, when straightened for the run to the finish and was slowly catching the winner at the end. CUTIE FACE was in the forefront throughout. WISE ANNE was much used racing with CRAZY JANE and faltered wheri; the real test came. CRAZY JANE, hustled to the front, tired in the closing quarter. j .
