BRENNAN, slow to gain his best stride, improved his position on the outside, came with a belated rush after being straightened into the home stretch, and wore down PETER PUMPKIN in the last fifty yards. PETER PUMPKIN, forwardly placed in the early running, disposed of the leaders rapidly when reaching the stretch and opened up a long lead, but faltered nearing the end. LOTOFUS lost command at the turn out of the back stretch, bore out rounding the turn, and finished wide while tiring. GRACE BUNTING raced prominently and had no excuses. SCOTTY DON showed early speed and held on gamely in the final test. GENTLEMAN broke well but lacked speed. BE JUST was done after a half mile. PRINCE TURLEY showed a high flight of speed to take the lead at the turn, but tired badly in the last quarter mile. DARK LAW stood flatfooted when the start came and was left. PARVA STELLA, suited by the footing, took command with the start, met determined efforts from CANROCK in the last five-sixteenths, and was under tenacious handling to last long enough. CANROCK moved up boldly to engage the winner midway of the turn, rallied to punishment, and fought it out stoutly. TAUNTON, slower than usual to get into his best stride, closed with a tremendous rush after trailing his field, and was going much the strongest at the close. BALLY BAY had good speed to hold a contending position in the first five furlongs, but weakened thereafter. ADVOCATE JUNIOR was hard urged all the way and showed a good performance. MALISPINA, away nicely and in close attendance of TWEETY, obtained racing room on the inside entering the home stretch when the pacemaker went wide, rallied to severe punishment and, closing stoutly, was up in the final sixteenth. TWEETY had good speed to move into the lead at once, lost ground at the turn into the home stretch, was placed to punishment when challenged, but could not withstand the winner. .VIVOLA was a strong factor for the first three furlongs, then weakened. TIDY LADY was forced to race on jthe outside all the way. ST. IVES could not enter contention. PRETTY PAL lacked speed to engage the leaders. AT POST 1 minute. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. SMEAR, steadied within striking distance of the leaders for the first six furlongs, took command readily when shaken up, was kept in the firmer footing after reaching the home stretch and outstayed SUN ABBOT. The latter worked his way up on the outside when put to a drive and closed with good courage. RIVER ROSE dropped back suddenly leaving the back stretch, saved ground and came again when reaching the home stretch. BRIGHT BIRD went prominently for the first seven furlongs then weakened. CANDLE FLY was unable to reach contention but was racing strongly nearing the close. APATHY raced well placed and had no mishaps. MACO was outrun. Scratched 11074Bird Lore, 110; 24739 James Boy, 118. ROYAL GOLD, full of run from the start, shook off WARREN JR. after seven furlongs, saved ground all the way and continued stoutly when placed to punishment for the final test. CACHALOT circled his field when shaken up and closed with a bold rush on the outside. He was racing much the strongest at the close. WARREN JR. was kept close up for seven furlongs then weakened. DOUBLE FINESSE, reserved back of the leaders, challenged gamely when put to a drive and finished determinedly under punishment in the last furlong. PHRIXUS, going in his best form, drew clear when reaching the last turn, saved ground, but weakened suddenly in the closing furlong. STROPHE moved up stoutly at the turn out of the back stretch, raced to the leaders in the closing furlong, and held on stoutly. CORUM fell back badly at the last turn, then outstayed tiring horses. ROSS, away well and having more early speed than usual, went to the front at once, raced on even terms with OVERSTIMULATE and on the outside and held the latter safe after drawing away slightly in the stretch. OVERSTIMULATE, away forwardly, saved ground on the inside of the winner throughout and hung on well when headed. ZEMBLA raced in the first flight and closed stoutly. THREE DAGGERS lacked early speed, gradually bettered his position, came throueh cn the inside in the stretch and closed a good gap. INFILEE could not get to the leaders. THIS PLAY stopped.
