ing days program at the Aurora course The brown son of Sleepy Head Goldie S came from behind in the stretch to defeat Mrs R O Burns Whisking by four lengths while the latter held a head advantage over Mrs Rose Sullivans Black River at the fin ¬ ish Transmutable from the stable of Mrs M Rennillo which served as the early pace ¬ maker was a badly tiring fourth fourthTaking Taking a snug hold of Getalong soon after the start Ryan was content to allow Trans mutable and Black River to fight for the right to set the pace but when the field made the home turn Getalong moved up swiftly and did not experience any difficul ¬ ty in oveihauling the leaders leadersSeven Seven of the twelve horses which were in ¬ cluded in the overnight entries started while Sun Apollo Colonel Ed Silverette Heart Break and Eruption were withdrawn due to the adverse track conditions which prevailed but did not detrrct from a good card cardBOSTON BOSTON SOUND UNPREPARED UNPREPAREDAfter After a delay of one minute at the starting gate which was caused by the unruliness of Boston Sound and Transmutable the field was dispatched to a good start for all except Boston Sound which appeared to be unpre ¬ pared for the break breakBefore Before travelling a sixteenth of a mile Transmutable succeeded in taking a lead of three lengths over Black River while Get along was taken back into third place and held in constituted the largest crowd in the his ¬ tory of the Aurora track trackDEEP DEEP IN MUD MUDDespite Despite the fact that the track was fetlock jdeep in heavy mud some thrilling sport re sulted during the day Six of the contests were over the sprint route while the two closing events were staged over distances of more than a mile Every available seat in the grandstand was occupied long before the first race was called to the post and the clubhouse was fairly bulging with anxious turf fans The extensive parking facilities were exhausted early and hundreds had to be accommodat ¬ ed on shut out of the first race betting bettingGIBBYS GIBBYS CHOICE EASILY EASILYMrs Mrs E Ores tenyearold gelding Gibbys Choice romped to an easy victory in the opening race holding an advantage of eight lengths over Sir Boston at the conclusion of the six furlongs dash Young Bill accounted for the third portion of the purse Drawing into the lead after going three furlongs the tenyearold son of Rancher Sevigne moved away after straightening out in the stretch and increased his margin rapidly in the final furlong Gibbys Choice rules the choice in the field of ten contestants and the triumph of the old campaigner was a popular one with the spectators The win ¬ ner paid 780 for 2 straight wagers in the mutuels mutuelsEleven Eleven sprinters met in the second event over the five and a half furlongs route and F W Cairys fiveyearold gelding Jay D showed the way from start to finish but was extended to the limit in order to defeat Wee lukie by the margin of a half a length On ¬ slaught grouped in the mutuel field fin ¬ ished in third place Ridden by apprentice L Guymon Jay D was away to a fast start and immediately opened up a good lead on his rivals However in the closing stages the son of Braedalbane had to be shaken up vigorously to ward off the challenge of Wee lukie and barely lasted long enough to ac ¬ count for the main part of the purse Supporters of Jay D received 1460 for 2 straight bets betsDisplaying Displaying a liking for the heavy footing Mrs I Seybolds The Nile defeated ten other platers in the live and a half furlongs af ¬ fair third on the card Love Lost finished second three lengths in the wake of the winner while Sparkling Rose finished third Under the capable handling of jockey Buddy Vail The Nile was hustled into a comfort ¬ able lead soon after the field was dispatched and remained on the front end throughout The winner was well backed in the wager ¬ ing paying 740 for 2 straight bets while the Daily Double combination of Jay D and The Nile rewarded ticket holders with 6320 for each certificate
