Racing that bor ¬ dered on the sensational thrilled a large weekday gathering of fans at the Fox Val ¬ ley Jockey Clubs track this afternoon as nose finishes occurred with startling fre ¬ quency It was a well balanced card of eight races that was presented under ideal weather and track conditions Though there was a stiff breeze blowing a warm sun shone down to take away the chill as the four sprints and a like number of distance races were staged to start the final week of racing at the Aurora course for 1937 1937The The Glen Ellyn Claiming Purse decided over the mile and a sixteenth distance oc ¬ cupied sixth position on the fare and eight of the better grade of platers on the grounds engaged in the affair Silvery Cloud flash ¬ ing the scarlet and blue silks of Leo Beyda of Chicago and guided by another native of the Windy City Paul Ryan chalked up her second straight victory in as many starts but was extended to the limit to register by a head over Wegoway Eniz finished in third place placeTwo Two of the eight thoroughbreds which lined up at the starting gate were elimi ¬ nated as Donnahona refused to break with her field and Hardware stumbled and un ¬ seated his rider when the field was dis ¬ patched thus reducing it to actually six par ¬ ticipants ticipantsUNDER UNDER SNUG HOLD HOLDPossessing Possessing a good burst of early speed Silvery Cloud was able to forge to the front midway of the clubhouse turn and was immediately taken under a snug hold with Wegoway always within striking distance of the pacemaker This order was maintained throughout but after heading into the stretch for the run to the wire Wegoway began closing the gap separating him from the leader Wegoway got within a head of the grey mare within the last seventy yards of the struggle but could not overtake her in the ensuing drive It was a highly popular victory as Silvery Cloud ruled an even money choice in the wagering wageringThe The tight finish brought about the fifth photograph finish of the first five races to be decided during the afternoon afternoonA A spectacular finish resulted in the first race of the day a six furlongs sprint for threeyearolds in which Mrs C C Winters Kentucky Eagle favorite in the band of eight contestants got up in the closing stride to nose out Visibility with Blind Sage half a length farther back in third place Visibility which had been the pacemaker from the time that the field was dispatched began shortening his stride in the last six ¬ teenth and the rapidly finishing public choice swooped down to annex the purse in a photograph finish finishMERAB MERAB GRADUATES GRADUATESMerab Merab a gray filly from the stable of Chappel Brothers making the fourth start of her racing career graduated from the maiden ranks in the second race which brought together a field of ten juveniles at four and a half furlongs It was another close finish as the daughter of Sherab held a margin of a head over Oddesa Lad Ave Continued on Ito Red Rogue landed third in the five and a half furlongs dash after making up considerable ground during the stretch racing racingOican Oican which was making his second ap ¬ pearance of the season and chalked up his second triumph raced Rapid Bells into de ¬ feat in the first three furlongs of the journey and pulled away in a manner that he would score with something to spare However Ito came up on the outside and entered his bid and it was a dingdong battle to the end endThe The third nose finish of the day and the fourth in five races which the camera was called on to decide kept the spectators on edge in the fifth race when the two choices Trevallion and Nessus came down to the finish on almost equal terms The former was adjudged the victor by a nose while Racketeer drew up in
