BUSY SCENES AT LATONIA Preparations Being Rushed for forInaugural Inaugural of ThirtySeven Day DayMeeting Meeting Opening May 29 LATONIA Ky May 17 With stables moving in daily and work on improvements going forward apace activity at Latonia warns of the nearness of another season of racing at the popular local track For the meeting which will open Saturday May 29 and embrace thirtyseven days the track will offer improved facilities and more com ¬ forts for its patrons Improvements under ¬ way will enhance the clubhouse and also the general enclosure an upstairs betting sec ¬ tion being under construction in the club ¬ house where a new cocktail lounge is being installed and the grandstand and main mu tuel pavilion are undergoing complete over ¬ hauling and renovation renovationSeveral Several stables are getting in this week from Lexington and immediately following the close of Churchill Downs Saturday thor ¬ oughbreds will arrive by the trainload ap ¬ proximately six hundred horses coming from the Louisville area areaWhile While the early closing stakes nomina ¬ tions for which closed a week ago were excellently subscribed to the program book of overnight events for the first seven days now in the hands of horsemen also provides many opportunities for the better class horses Latonias minimum purse will be 600 for the cheaper variety of racer while values for overnight races fashioned for horses of quality will run as high as 1000 1000The The purse schedule is in every instance commensurate with the value of the horses and owners of performers more attractive to track patrons will not be obliged to race them for the same monetary prizes as will go to the cheaper horses Graded handicaps are to be featured along with allowance events for horses of all classes and racing secretary William Shelley has not overlooked fillies and mares in drawing up his first book of conditions which should greatly please and encourage breeders and owners of such horses
