JUDGE EDWARD C SMITH DIES DIESVeteran Veteran New York Official Passes PassesAway Away in Quarters at Whitman WhitmanHotel Hotel Jamaica N Y NEW YORK N Y May 17 Edward C Smith placing judge on the metropolitan tracks and steward at Hialeah Park died in his quarters in the Whitman Hotel Ja ¬ maica Sunday afternoon He had been ail ¬ ing for some time and on Saturday evening upon his arrival from the track he com ¬ plained of being ill A physician was sum ¬ moned and on Sunday he grew worse and passed away during the afternoon afternoonFuneral Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 oclock from Fairchilds 8931 164th street Jamaica and interment will be in Kensico Cemetery Westchester N Y YJudge Judge Smith was 71 years old and had been identified with racing for years He is survived by his wife who hails from Gloucester Mass where he made his home for the past few years
