SLOW TRACK AT DOWNS t Speculation Brisk Despite Footing f Accordian Takes Fourth Race IfTyler Hotel Handicap Feature of Days Card Sea Ted Outstays Hermanita in Fifth Race LOUISVILLE Ky May 19 With the end of the meeting only three days away Louis ¬ ville and Blue Grass racegoers turned out in large numbers to witness the midweek pro ¬ gram offered under pleasant weather condi tions but on a slow drying out track at Churchill Downs this afternoon Contrasting with yesterdays weather when a severe wind hail and electrical storm broke over the course to deluge the track the weather today was all that could be desired desiredThe The attendance was one of the largest of the meeting for a similar day and while small fields started in a majority of the races and track conditions added a measure of uncertainty speculation was brisk In ¬ cluded among the patrons were many visi tors from the thoroughbred breeding area surrounding Lexington LexingtonThe The principal offering was the Tyler Hotel Handicap and it brought together five of the faster sprinters to display their racing quality over a distance of six furlongs It was endowed with a 1000 purse purseFavorites Favorites generally gave creditable ac counts of themselves two of the first four winners being popular choices choicesMY MY BLAZE POPULAR POPULARThe The first race a dash of six furlongs for platers resulted in a popular victory for My Blaze The sevenyearold went to the front at the outset and after opening a com ¬ manding lead in thev first quarter main ¬ tained it throughout to score1 by five lengths Uhkie Tom moved up into second place on tKe turn and though he could not get to the winner was easily best of the others leading the third horse Anna V L past the judges by two lengths Ada W which raced closest to the winner for the first quarter was fourth in the field of eight eightThe The second race also had a popular result the Greentree Stables Birthday a well backed choice leading home six other maiden twoyearold colts and geldings over five furlongs Interfered with at the start and blocked again going into the tura Birth ¬ day finally was able to get through next to the rail entering the stretch and once in front drew away to score by three lengths P Roberts was astride the son of St Bri deaux Welcome Gift Second to complete the dash was Backintime the principal cause of Birthdays interference at the start while Maneuver was third a length back Rocky Road was best of the others FAVORED BY SLOW TRACK TRACKMrs Mrs M B Etzlers Pan Toy ridden by Sammy Roberts and favoring the slow track accounted for the third race in which eight met over a mile and a sixteenth Burning Billows was second and the wellbacked Byrdine third Pan Toy in hand for about five furlongs moved up fast on the second turn took the lead entering the stretch and raced past the judges a length and a half to the good Burning Billows which took the lead from Riff in the back stretch held it until the winner came along and was only a neck in front of Byrdine at the end
