BRANNCASTLE SILKS SCORE The Schemers Stretch Rush Wins Betsy Williams Stakes Disqualification Mars First Race at Narra Narragansett gansett Park Milk Set Back and andGlynna Glynna Awarded Purse I PAWTUCKET R I May 19 Branncastle BranncastleI I Farms The Schemer fresh from a conquest conquestin in New York showed some stretch running runningto to the best threeyearold fillies on the thegrounds grounds and Sammy Renick gave several Narragansett riders a lesson in horseman ¬ ship to win the 3000 added Betsy Williams Stakes which featured a cold and rainy aft ¬ ernoon of sport at the Pawtucket plant At the end Sammy had his mount a length clear of Mrs A M Creechs Miss Dolphin DolphinThe The winner was the best horse but the weird ride Jackie Richard gave the second horse did not enhance her chances He had her out in a long lead and could have chosen any part of the sloppy track He chose the worst part He took her back at the stretch and still she came on again under her own courage courageD D J Sullivan IIIs Trina ran a good race to take third half a length behind Miss Dol ¬ phin and a length in front of Dixianas ex ¬ treme outsider Shootin High Eight started in the stake stakeMiss Miss Dolphin began fast and was leading by three lengths by the time they reached the clubhouse turn in the mile and seventy yards affair She led by that margin down the back stretch with Shootin High after her On the turn Miss Dolphin began to tire and Shootin High headed her momen ¬ tarily Patrolite was moving up fast at this stage and looked as if she might win as they straightened out but she dropped back go ¬ ing to the eighth post Miss Dolphin came again and was increasing her lead when Renick who had rated his mount next to last on the outside in the firmest footing roused The Schemer and she came again againRENICKS RENICKS FINE RACE RACEThe The Schemer swept past horses in the final eighth caught the leader just past the sixteenth post and was drawing away in the final seventy yards It was a courageous race and a good one but Renicks ride de ¬ serves as much praise as his horses game ness nessTrina Trina an excellent stretch runner was far back early but displayed her usual speed in the late stages to take third over the fal ¬ tering Shootin High HighThe The winner finished in 145 over a track that was sloppy and deep on the inside insideThe The miserable weather doubtless cut down the attendance but some 15000 were out to watch the splendid card arranged by secre ¬ tary Pat Horgan H E Engers Zoic a warmlysupported favorite scored a convincing victory in the Harwich Handicap supporting attraction on the card The winner was drawing off in the final sixteenth of a mile to whip Dixi ¬ anas Rollin Home by two lengths It was an Indianfile finish with Mrs A M Creechs Reaping four lengths back of the runnerup Zaca was fourth Only seven went wentFIRST FIRST DISQUALIFICATION DISQUALIFICATIONThe The first disqualification of the meeting came with the running of the first race in which the judges took down the number of Milk and gave the race to Mrs Kathryri Melansons favored Glynna The disqualifi ¬ cation was inevitable for the winner hit Glynna at the eighth marker and almost knocked her to her knees Under the revised placing Mrs P A Shaws Gayette was placed second and C Andrade ins Witson third James River was moved into fourth Milk set the pace followed by Glynna She was beginning to tire an eighth out and swerved into Glynna which was making her bid at the time But for the interference Glynna would have won by several lengths The time was 114
