COUNT ARTHURS HANDICAP Hertz Horse Has Only Two Oppo ¬ nents at Belmont Park Race Serves as Preparation for Suburban SuburbanHandicap Handicap Hurry Harry Victorious Victoriousin in Steeplechase Race NEW YORK N Y May 19 Mrs John Hertz Count Arthur had an excellent trial for his engagement in the Suburban Hand ¬ icap at Belmont Park today when he scored in the Ben Brush Handicap He was only opposed by Cleaveland Putnams Moon Side and Mrs William Ziegler Jrs good mare Esposa and they followed him home in the order named Moon Side is not engaged in the Suburban but Esposa is in the old handicap and though she was beaten her race was a good one oneAnother Another cold cloudy day made racing con ¬ ditions unfavorable and the card was made up of overnight events This naturally af ¬ fected the attendance and it was one of the smallest crowds of the meeting In the Ben Brush Handicap Gilbert appeared to take up Moon Side as he left his stall and the other two jumped away with speed speedEsposa Esposa was permitted to take the lead but Balaski rated Count Arthur at her heels and it was evident the son of Reigh Count could go to her at the first asking Moon Side in the early racing was a good four lengths back of Mrs Hertz horse but Gil ¬ bert made no early effort to cut that lead Balaski waited with Count Arthur until near the stretch turn where he moved up on Esposa EsposaDISPLAYS DISPLAYS USUAL COURAGE COURAGEAs As he came alongside the mare hung on with her accustomed courage but after turning into the stretch Count Arthur took command By this time Gilbert had gone to work on Moon Side and he was making up ground rapidly on the outside but Count Arthur was racing well within himself Ba ¬ laski shook him up slightly to make the vic ¬ tory certain and he was still a length to the good as he crossed the line Esposa which probably needed the race tired when she was another two lengths back backWood Wood Song a brother of Singing Wood and a Greentree Stable eligible for both the Juvenile and the National Stallion Stakes was a galloping winner of the four and a half furlongs dash for maiden twoyearolds and he performed in a manner to suggest that he may be the best of the crop In hand at the finish it was William DuPont Jrs Bonnie Sea that took second place with John Hay Whitneys Button Button finish ¬ ing well to beat Chaps for third thirdArcaro Arcaro got Wood Song away in motion and he rode a wonderfully confident race on the colt Making no effort to draw away from the others until inside the final fur ¬ long the handsome gray came away in the final furlong with ridiculous ease until his winning margin was three lengths lengthsFREE FREE AGAINS GOOD RACE RACEJohn John Simonettis Free Again came back with a good race in the opening six furlongs dash over the main course when he scored over Mrs Val Cranes Elwawa with J S Rileys Fredrick such a close third that a photograph was required to make the de ¬ cision Fourth went to Peppery Free Again was the one to show the way from the break and Stout hustled her along with such success she was never headed
