VINDICATES STRONG BACKING Pharloch Wins Jamaica Handicap at Short Price at Suffolk Downs ¬ Unseasonably Cold BOSTON Mass June 3 Mrs V R Hop ¬ pers Pharloch one of the warmest choices of the Suffolk Downs meeting raced to an easy triumph in the Jamaica Handicap which featured an unseasonably cold day of sport at the Eastern Racing Association grounds this afternoon The winner ridden by Johnny Deering who was scoring a double ran very fast finishing in 144 time that was just a second off Time Sup ¬ plys record for the distance At the end he was well clear of Jimmy Logans Virnock one that romped along in front until the head of the stretch where the winner caught him It was a parade at the finish line with Willis Sharpe Kilmers Teddy Patic six lengths back of the runnerup and two in front of Palan Peplum was the only other starter starterVirnock Virnock went to the front immediately and before they hit the clubhouse turn he showed the way by three lengths Teddy Patic was in nearest pursuit but the favorite was right behind him and running easily It was evident he was ready to make his bid at any time Deering asked for speed Deering called for it approaching the far turn and he passed Teddy Patic and went after the pacemaker in earnest earnestVirnock Virnock and Pharloch came into the stretch head and head Virnock was labor ¬ ing and Pharloch was running in easy strides Virnock stayed with his rival under a hard drive until they were approaching the sixteenth post There Pharloch moved past and went on to score by open daylight daylightVirnock Virnock had no opposition for second place Both he and Teddy Patic were tiring at the end but nothing else in the field was ever in competition competitionJake Jake Freedmans Singers Folly proved gamer than Piccolo from the C V Whitney stable in the Bees Purse supporting feature at a mile and a sixteenth and drove to vic ¬ tory by half a length under an energetic ride from Tommy Luther The battling leaders were far in advance of the others as they finished out T P Morgans Sachem which made most of the pace finished third five lengths back and just a nose in front of Corum Tugboat Frank brought up the rear guard
