DOUBLE FOR MRS FURST Over the Top and Little Flag Score at Homewood Haas Astride Both Winners Mili ¬ tary Owned by Mrs Mars Second in Feature Race HOMEWOOD 111 June 4 Running a fast and game race in which he came from behind a fast pace and then withstood a challenge from Military the Man o War threeyearold Over the Top owned by Mrs William H Furst of Chicago carried that sportswomans silks to their second triumph of the afternoon when he scored in the Riverdale Purse mile feature of Fridays racing at Washington Park Traversing the route over a good but dead track in 137 Over the Top which was purchased by his present owner from the Glen Riddle Farm before his engagement in the Preakness Stakes won by threequarters of a length while Military owned by Mrs Ethel V Mars mother of Mrs Furst in turn beat School mom the property of Mrs Roy Carruthers by five lengths for second place placeEarlier Earlier in the day the Furst colors were borne to victory by Little Flag which like Over the Top was ridden by Leon Haas HaasOver Over the Top a candidate for the Latonia Derby and also for the American Derby raced the early furlongs under a snug hold but on the outside Then he moved up first to challenge and then race past Schoolmom and into the lead which he never thereafter relinquished Military raced far back until reaching the turn where he began his move Approaching the furlong post he too dis ¬ posed of Schoolmom and set sail for the ultimate winner but was not quite equal to the task taskCONSOLATION CONSOLATION AWARD AWARDMuscatine Muscatine raced with the leaders for about fiveeighths and then began to give way while Alkit which finished fourth raced past distressed members of the field to earn the consolation award as she did not gain any ground on the leaders leadersOver Over the Top was the choice of the field of seven which also included Old Nassau and Ivory Tip both of which were through when the real racing began beganRain Rain most of the forenoon did not greatly affect the track which was good but it did have an effect on the size of the crowd which was one of the smallest ones of the meeting The rain stopped before the first race and along about the fourth race skies cleared somewhat only to become overcast later laterThe The fifth race which engaged nine two yearold fillies most of them eligible for the Princess Pat Stakes to be run here on June 12 saw the gray Manie OHara owned by the Milky Way Farm of Mrs Ethel V Mars score her second straight victory in as many starts Manie OHara ridden by Alfred Rob ¬ ertson scored her maiden victory in hollow fashion but today she met sterner opposi ¬ tion winning only by threequarters of a length under energetic hand riding Her strongest opposition came from Lillian Roth which took second money while Well Re ¬ warded stable companion of the winner was third Fancy That led home the others othersROBERTSONS ROBERTSONS STRONG FINISH FINISHManie Manie OHara which probably will be the main reliance of her connections in the Princess Pat was quick to take command She was taken in hand around the turn and then bore out entering the stretch but she responded to the shaking up Robertson gave her as the final furlong neared and she continued on well to the end endAfter After the race Manie OHara and Well Rewarded worked an additional eighth the former being timed for the six furlongs in 114 and the latter in 115 115The The colors of Mrs William H Furst of Chicago made their first appearance of the Washington Park season in the opening event and they were carried to victory by Little Flag The daughter of American Flag winner of her only previous start at Santa Anita followed Mafuta into the stretch and then went to the front herself to score by four lengths One of the favorites she was handled by Leon Haas Mafuta tired badly after her early display of speed and at the end of five furlongs was out of the picture Mr Grief a rank outsider moving up to be second and Techy being third Ebony Boy led home the others in the field of eight juveniles which met under claiming condi ¬ tions The winning streak of Alfred Robert ¬ son was broken here when he failed to score with Techy He had ridden five straight winners over a period of two days
