SEABISCUIT MAY NOT START Trainer Smith Says Howard Star Will Be Absentee From Bay Meadows Handicap. SAN MATEO, Calif., April 12. Seabiscuit is no certainty to go to the post in the 5,000 added Bay Meadows Handicap Saturday afternoon, and if not it will be a wild scramble for the purse money. If the son of Hard Tack is withdrawn, the field will be large as none of the others can match the caliber of the Howard star, and the minor horses nominated will take a chance against them. Should Seabiscuit remain in the race, but few would care to hook up with the champion despite the fact that he has been allotted 133 pounds. Tom Smith, Seabiscuits trainer, stated Tuesday morning that his pride and joy would not go to the post Saturday and that arrangements were being made to ship him to Pimlico in the near future. Owner Charles S. Howard, when interviewed last week stated that Seabiscuit would remain on the Pacific Coast and would be a starter in the 0,000 added Hollywood Gold Cup at Inglewood. Howard could not be reached early Tuesday, as this was written, for a confirmation of Smiths statement regarding the sending of the horse to Maryland. L
