PALAMEDE PAW1TOETVICTOR Draws Off in Stretch to Register by Margin of Two Lengths Jimmy Ashcroft Astride Three Winners at atNarragansctt Narragansctt Weather Conditions ConditionsUnpleasant Unpleasant for Sport PAWTUCKET R L Oct 28 Mrs Kirby Ramseys Palamede coupled in the betting with A Sprows Bow and Arrow drew off in the stretch to win the mile and seventy yards Nantucket Purse which featured to ¬ days sport at Narragansett Park At the end the Ladkin gelding was two lengths clear of R C Groffs Forever Prince with J M Brooks Sun Capture taking the third award Sargazo finished fourth Buddy Haas here to ride T M Dorsett in tomor ¬ rows New England Futurity rode the win ¬ ner who finished out in 145 over a heavy track trackThe The day was cold and a high wind blow Ing but a fairsized crowd was out to witness the sport Jimmy Ashcroft starred in the saddle winning three of the first four races racesNECK NECK AND NECK NECKScabbard Scabbard and Sun Capture went out in a neck and neck pace battle in the feature and opened up on the field down the back stretch In the run to the far turn Scab ¬ bard dropped back and Sun Capture took the van with Forever Prince coming up to challenge and Palamede making a strong move around the turn turnPalamede Palamede had the lead at the stretch but was not clear until the sixteenth pole and then he began to draw away Sun Capture was tiring badly and dropping back steadily in the final yards Scabbard finished last in the field of seven after his early efforts effortsW W E Snyders Black Rhapsody the favor ¬ ite scored a romping victory in the six furlongs event that was first on the pro ¬ gram leading all the way and drawing off from all rivals in the stretch to win pulled up by eight lengths over A J Halliwells Izaak Walton J W Barnes R Pinchot finished third two lengths off the runner up and Nellie Me was fourth The winner ridden by Ashcroft finished out in 114 flat NASH SCORES SCORESRonnie Ronnie Nash booted another one home in the second event when he sent Nabob to the front at the head of the stretch and drew off in the final yards to beat Shimmering by a length with Pomplit finishing third a length and a half back of the second horse My Buddy was fourth Nash rated the victor off the pace of Shimmering and Pomplit to the far turn There he moved second Around the bend he drew up on Shimmer ¬ ing to take the lead as they straightened out He let loose all wraps at the sixteenth post and was drawing away as he won Gallant wonGallant Stroke found the going and the opposition in the third race made to order for him and he drew out to win well in hand by four lengths over Parrorascope Jane Vito was a length off the runnerup and a head in front of Housekeeper Jane Vito went out to make the early running She was soon overtaken by Grand Light and the two ran down the backstreatch head and head with Gallant Stroke lapped on them Rounding the turn for home Gallant Stroke was called upon for improved speed and he drew to the front at will and merely galloped along in front for the length of the stretch stretchAshcroft Ashcroft completed a triple as he piloted Lady Hav to victory in the fourth event He drove his mount to the lead at the head of the lane for home and under hustling tactics she was half a length clear of Macie Margaret an extreme outsider at the end of the journey finishing in 148 over a track that was muddy earlier but which was heavy for this event Nancy Reed took the third award another length and a half back and OfficeMere well in advance of Post Office Mere Blaze led in the seventh affair and ran out in front of his field from end to end The Mere Play gelding opened up five lengths going into the back stretch and cantered along in front of bis field until approaching the halfmile ground There Happy Helen and New Deal moved up to reduce his margin to a length but A Snider let out a wrap and Mere Blaze went on to open up three lengths but was ridden out to assure victory At the finish Happy Helen and Midshipman were going gamely but could never get closer than two and a half lengths back of the winner
