LEGION PROVES EASY WINNER Dandys Pal Offers Chief Contention in Fifth at Sportsmans Big Friday Crowd Presages Record Attend ¬ ance Saturday Jockey Dew Hiding Star of Afternoon CICERO 111 Oct 28 The Evanston Purse a better grade claiming affair at seven furlongs for threeyearolds and up ¬ ward topped todays program at Sports ¬ mans Park and it resulted in an easy vic ¬ tory for Legion owned by Mrs C C Win ¬ ters This fouryearold son of War Time one of the choices in the field of six ran the distance in 129 under the guidance of Jose Marrero and crossed the line of finish with an advantage of three lengths lengthsDandys Dandys Pal the only threeyearold in the field supplied the chief contention and took second place a little less than a length be ¬ fore Our David while those rounding out the field were Airlap Sanctity and Polly Hastings The latter was the favorite but she turned in a disappointing performance trailing the field after the first quarter quarterOur Our David engaged Legion in a lively tus ¬ sle for paccmaking honors for about five eighths of a mile and then the Winters horse roused by Marrero drew away and never again left the result in doubt Our David clung to second place until reaching the drive and then Dandys Pal forged past him to take down second money moneySANCTITY SANCTITY FAILS FAILSLike Like Polly Hastings Sanctity failed to re ¬ spond when called upon by his rider and failed to get into the picture Airlap ran a more or less even race to be fourth a length and a half behind Our David DavidAnother Another large crowd was in attendance this afternoon and the big turnout and pleas ¬ ant weather seemed to presage a big day for Sportsmans Park tomorrow tomorrowBrides Brides Delight performing under the col ¬ ors of Mrs M Allen scored an easy victory over the five furlongs of the opening event The favorite at odds of a little more than 3 to 1 the Allen fiveyearold handled by Earl Dew took the lead on the inside enter ¬ ing the back stretch and then steadily drew out until her advantage at the end was five lengths Jockana which had been a sharp factor from the beginning took the place but only lasted to win it by a neck from Eclton which came from a good way back At the start Red Flyer lost his rider Jose Marrero but the boy was not hurt hurtOutsiders Outsiders finished first second and third in the second race in which a field of ten contested over seven furlongs The victory went to Ghans and Callahans Birds Eye to complete a double for apprentice Dew while Hydromella was second and Paplay third The favorite Morning Mail was outrun all the way in a dull performance Birds Eye which paid 4460 came from a good way back and got up to score by a length as Hydromella beat Paplay a length and a half for second honors Sweepogan showed the way over the early furlongs by a wide mar ¬ gin but gave way badly in the last eighth to drop out of the picture pictureFALSE FALSE CARD ROMPS ROMPSThe The wellplayed False Card owned by F A Stcland and guided by Robert Martin took an early lead in the third race and was never headed The contest was decided over seven furlongs and at the end False Card was in front by two lengths Margaret Nadi sup ¬ plied the principal contention over the early furlongs but near the end Corvus got up to beat her a neck for the place while the favor ¬ ite Attainment was another neck farther away in fourth position at the end For max which came in for good support in the mutuels was outrun throughout and finished far back backL L M Seversons Catherine G handled by Theodore Atkinson was the winner of the five furlongs fourth race at odds of a little more than 7 to 1 She showed the way over the early furlongs by a good margin but lost the lead momentarily on the stretch turn by racing wide Spnia M took com ¬ mand during this brief interval and then Catherine G came on again to score by a length and a half Sonia M accounted for second place with Ultidue running third a half length farther back Wild Love beat the others in the field of eight threeyear olds oldsJockey Jockey Dew rode his third winner in the seven furlongs sixth race which fell to B B Neels Maiden Dream The daughter of SanUtar took the lead at once set the pace under clever rating and then stood a sharp drive well to cling to her position to the end At the wire she was a neck in front of the runnerup What a Pal
