SOME COUNT FINALLY SCORES Completes Double for Mrs E Dene mark and Jockey Alex Schlenker Rcigh Count Colt Registers First Victory In InFifteen Fifteen Starts This Season Which Whichaway away Disqualified In Second LAUREL Md Oct 28 The semifinal program of the Twentyfive day meeting here was staged under disagreeable weather conditions as the result of a sudden and unexpected change early this morning A cold steady drizzle put the track in muddy condition just when it was returning to its best and held the crowd down to one of the smallest of the meeting The main event was the Carney Purse a test of a mile and seventy yards which attracted five fair threeyearolds with Some Count emerging the winner and completing a double for Mrs Emil Denemark and jockey Alex Schlenker Genie Palatine having been their previous victor victorSome Some Count came from behind with a strong stretch drive to defeat George D Wideners Grass Cutter the favorite by a half length as Joseph E Wideners Buck ¬ ing was four lengths farther back and with Candle Ends at his heels Brown Moth completed the field fieldThe The son of Rcigh Count and In Bounds the outsider in the wagering was rated in fourth position until reaching the stretch as Candle Ends set the pace until Grass Cutter was sent forward rounding the second turn Grass Cutter got to the front entering the stretch but Some Count came forward so quickly that he was pressing the favorite closely entering the final furlong furlongCANDLE CANDLE ENDS TIRES TIRESGrass Grass Cutter gave Some Count an argu ¬ ment for a sixteenth of a mile but the lat ¬ ter was not to be denied and pulled away towards the end As Candle Ends weakened Bucking moved into third place Brown Moth was never close The time was l45ti l45tiA A close finish resulted in the Churchville Purse the secondary feature which drew five fair platers going a mile and onesix ¬ teenth and the picture showed Mrs Emil Denemarks Genie Palatine winning by a nose over F C Murrays Slump as W Elliotts Careful Miss was four lengths away and well before Trina and Brown Knight Genie Palatine was a slight favorite over Slump A Schlenker hustled Genie Pala ¬ tine to the front rounding the first turn and she held sway by a clear margin until reaching the stretch where Eccard brought up Slump after having rated her in near pursuit The Murray gelding gained grad ¬ ually on Genie Palatine all through the stretch but just failed to run down the daughter of Genie GenieGENERAL GENERAL MOWLEE GRADUATES GRADUATESEleven Eleven nondescript twoyearolds of Mary ¬ land parentage met in the initial offering of the afternoon a test of six furlongs and it gave General Mowlee from the Howard Bruce stable his racing diploma when he led virtually throughout to score at the im ¬ mediate expense of the favorite Part One Ridden by jockey M Peters and driving to the front after Prosit led the way for the first quartermile the Bruce youngster stuck to his task willingly to be winner by a half length Miss E Carvers Buds King was the one to land the short end of the spoils spoilsWhichaway Whichaway was disqualified after finish ¬ ing second to the Millsdale Stables Bain Marie oddson favorite in the second race which attracted six fair platers at a mile and seventy yards The place was awarded to Vassar and third money went to Sachem In coming through on the inside turning into the stretch Whichaway which was rid ¬ den by Lucas Dupps collided with Vassar as Bain Marie was going to the front on the outside and knocked her out of contention At the sixteenth post Bain Marie crossed over in front of Whichaway for which Dupps claimed a foul but the stewards re ¬ fused to heed his plea and set his mount back for the foul at the head of the stretch stretchLIKES LIKES MUDDY FOOTING FOOTINGShandon Shandon Farms Top Staff found the muddy going to his liking to capture the third race at a mile and seventy yards which brought out nine fair juveniles but the son of Sun Flag At Top had to be rid ¬ den out by R Eccard to defeat W F Hitts Balloter by a head Brandywine Stables Guyencourt was two lengths back in third place and well before Rodin the favorite and the others othersThe The Shandon Farm rounded out a double when My Elsie won the sixth race at a mile and onesixteenth by a length and onehalf over Mrs J Grossmans Plea the favorite Gaurisankar owned by B F Christmas was another two lengths back and Moon Harvest was fourth in the field of eight ordinary platers Under H Mora My Elsie moved up steadily on the outside during the final threequarters to get to the front entering the stretch but she did her best through the stretch as Plea after having set the early pace finished in determined fashion Gaurisankar was on the inside throughout being blocked several times
