McGONIGLE STILL RUNNING Not as Agile or Fast as in Former Years But a Formidable Oppo ¬ nent for Some Platers SHREVEPORT La Nov 4 McGonigle doesnt run as fast or as consistently as he did in former years but he still runs and manages on his aging legs to pay his own way year in and year out Hes twelve years old now this bay gelding by Omar Khayyam Lady Astor by Sweep and is currently campaigning at the Shreveport Fair Grounds track under the colors of Mrs Mary Stewart StewartOld Old McGonigle in his younger days raced for the Knebelkamp brothers Cl H and W F of Louisville and under their silks com ¬ peted with some of the best horses of that time He fell just a trifle short of being a real star but on occasion he stepped out to humble a field of topnotchers He achieved more than ordinary success in Louisiana racing at the New Orleans Fair Grounds and as a threeyearold in 1929 fin ¬ ished third to Calfroper and Panchio in the Louisiana Derby DerbyThis This sturdy veteran was named for the former jockey Marion McGonigle who years ago rode for the Knebelkamp Stable and who was astride the horse in many of his earlier triumphs Incidentally McGonigle is a joint holder with two other horses of the local track record of 147 for a mile and seventy yards He established this figure last year and it was equalled during the present meeting by Indian Salute and Scholar Girl GirlMcGonigle McGonigle no longer cavorts with the equine elite but he is a pushover for no mans horse in his own class
