TYPHOON HITS PHILIPPINES MANILA P L Nov 4 Roaring across the Pacific a typhoon swept the central Philippine Islands group today and was feared to have caused extensive property damage and loss of life Moving from east to west the storm was believed to have taken many lives in the thickly populated islands of Leyte Samar Cebu Negros and Panay Communication with Manila and other islands was destroyed and no imme ¬ diate check of damages or loss of life was obtainable First reports indicated the typhoon had missed the southernmost tip of the Island of Luzon on which Manila is located sweeping slightly to the south
