VOLUNTEER BLOOD DONORS BOSTON, Mass., Dec. 21. Boston survivors of the dread blood disease, streptococcus veridans, today rushed to volunteer their blood for transfusion to aid Rev. Jeremiah Toomey, now critically ill in a New York hospital with the dangerous malady. Among the volunteers who interrupted their Christmas celebrations to offer their blood were Thomas Garrity, a city councillor of Lowell; 18-year-old Geraldine Barry of Revere, and James Donovan, Boston, who is not only a survivor of the disease, but possesses No. 4 type blood, the "universal type," suitable for transfusion to any patient. All volunteers had recovered from the disease and declared themselves ready to give their blood to aid the stricken priest. Other volunteers today were rushing to add their names to the mercy roll and their names were being taken, pending blood tests.
