STILL HAVE NAVAL DEFENSE LOS ANGELES, Calif., Dec. 26. Absence of the United States fleet for five months for maneuvers in the Atlantic will not strip the west coast of naval defense, it was revealed today. Thirty-two fighting craft will remain based in the San Diego-Los Angeles Harbors area, Admiral Claude B. Bloch, chief in command, revealed in announcing that departure of the fleet of 140 ships will begin December 29. Return of the, armada with its 53,000 officers and men and 600 .planes is scheduled for June 12.
