TIED FOR RIDING LEADERSHIP Robart and Charlton Even Up in Number of Fair Grounds Winners Also Tie for Second. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 26. Substantial gains have been made by Jimmy Bowen and Bobby Conley during the past week of racing at the Fair Grounds and these youngsters are tied for the runner-up position, with thirteen all, just two winners behind Eddie Robart and "Chuck" Charlton, who are tied for the leadership with fifteen winners each. Sammy Williams, who was expected to cut an important figure in the riding contest this winter, is in third place with a total of eleven winners, but has decided to join the second division of the James C. Ellis stable at Santa Anita. The closeness of the riding duel looms as one of the most exacting in recent history. Not since Johnny Gilbert and "Hank" Mills waged their battle for the national championship, has a contest been so undivided. Although the horses of W. W. Adams did not draw down.any purses during the past week, E. E. Russell managed to maintain his lead over the trainers, while J. R. "Red" Gregory rested in second place with a total of seven winners and Ed Haughton held third place with six winners to his credit.
