NEW YORK RACING PROSPERS Increase Shown Over Figures of Last LastYear Year in Attendance Receipts Receiptsand and Purses NEW YORK N Y July 8 Fear in New York racing circles that the Worlds Fair would cut deeply into attendance and income figures at the courses in the Metropolitan districts have been dissipated by the in ¬ creased volume of business at the recent meetings at Jamaica Belmont Park and Aqueduct AqueductFigures Figures submitted to the New York State Racing Commission are in all cases in ad ¬ vance of those for the corresponding meet ¬ ing in 1938 The increases of course trans ¬ late into greater taxes payable to the state of New York Yorkj j The figures submitted to the commission show attendance at the Jamaica and Bel i mont Park and Aqueduct meetings to have totalled 601546 as against 588680 last year This is an increase of 12866 or 218 per cent The receipts were 188028088 as compared to 179104207 an increase of 8923881 or I almost 5 per cent The tax to the state was I 25638427 as compared to 23808541 an in ¬ crease of 1829886 or 76 per cent centSo So far as purse distribution is concerned there was an increase over last year of 63 515 or almost 10 per cent 754685 this year as against 691170 in 1938 1938No No one can say whether the figures to date datej j this year represent patronage increased by byj j out of town visitors more than making up upa a slight decrease in New York patrons But Butit it is certain the figures as they stand are areconvincing convincing enough to eliminate uneasiness uneasinessfor for the remainder of the racing season
