Milky Way Farms Tiger returned to competition this spring after a layoff of more than a year because of an injury and displayed no signs of infirmities when he sprinted off with the Morton Grove Purse a sevenfurlong feature of todays rac ¬ ing at Arlington Park With a large crowd including many women guests of the management in attendance the Bull Dog fouryearold covered the seveneighths in 124 and won by three and a half lengths as Crossbow II ran second and CoSport third Tiger was the favorite in the field of 1 six and the odds against his chances were 11 to 10 Tiger which won j the Arkansas Derby last year and was shipped to Louisville for the Ken ¬ tucky Derby went wrong shortly be ¬ fore the running of the Churchill Downs classic but since he resumed racing early this spring has shown shownsteady steady improvement His victory today was his first in eight starts this year but the manner in which he accomplished the score suggests he will be heard from further as the summer progresses As a twoyearold Tiger was one of the stars of his division and earned more than 50000 50000HOLD HOLD RIVALS SAFE SAFEIn In accounting for the Morton Grove Purse Tiger ridden by Alfred Robertson took the lead before leaving the chute and held his rivals safe the rest of the way Crossbow II raced in close attendance of the Milky Way colt for about a halfmile and then Tiger asserting his superiority steadily drew away for an easy win Though Crossbow H could not handle the winner he was good enough to take the place two and a half lengths before CoSport Visigoth was fourth with sprint of seven furlongs in which Mrs Willard Wilsons homebred Pearl Alma defeated eight maiden three yearolds Not raced as a twoyearold the daughter of Pigeon Wing II and Lance was making good in her fourth try this year and those who wagered on her chances received 3060 for 2 Catherine F finished second and the favorite Tack Point third Pearl Alma handled by George Wallace made her own pace drew into a long lead on the turn and then weakened some in the last eighth She lasted however to win by a little more than a length Tack Point was another three lengths away at the end Flora Span was a stretch she drew out Near the end Blue Harmony which had been well up from the begin ¬ ning was getting to the Keene filly but she was kept to her task long enough to score by a length and a quarter Colosseum was third and Millgal fourth Storcky second choice in the betting to the winner raced with the leaders for about half the dis ¬ tance and then dropping back never threat ¬ ened again againThe The third race was another at five and a half furlongs for twoyearolds and it resulted in a popular victory for the Mills dale Stables Belle High In front soon after the start the daughter of High Strung com ¬ pleted the distance with an advantage of four lengths her rider J E Oros having a snug hold on her as she crossed the line of finish Crumpet was lapped on the Millsdale filly to the final quarter and then Belle High scoring her third victory in five starts left her company behind In the run through the stretch Maenerva got up to beat Crumpet a length for the place Hard Loser was practically left at the post while Little Ruler the only other starter bore out much of the way and did not seem inclined to extend herself herselfJockey Jockey J E Oros competed a double when he won the sixth race for his mother Mrs Elizabeth Oros with the fouryearold filly Bluefield Winner of her last start she scored by only a neck as Shadytown the favorite ran second and Cautivo third Bluefield paying 29 for 2 was a sharp factor from the beginning and after reach ¬ ing the stretch stood a sharp drive to get the decision
