LATONIA CUP CLOSES TODAY Good Field of Stayers Expected to toCompete Compete Over the Long Route RouteSaturday Saturday at Covington LATONIA Ky July 26 With the dead ¬ line for making entries for the 1000 Latonia Cup tomorrow a good field of routers are likely to compete over the marathon distance of two miles and seventy yards on Satur ¬ day afternoon this serving as the principal attraction of the final days program at the Millsdale course courseIn In years past the Latonia Cup ranked as one of the outstanding distance races of the United States and brought together some of the most prominent thoroughbreds in training However endurance races while not lacking in popularity among racing fans have faded from the limelight in the past ten years yearsIn In an effort to revive the interest of own ¬ ers and trainers in cup races the Latonia management has continued to include such an event on its program on the final day of the season although it has been neces ¬ sary to reduce the purse value because of the quality of marathoners available availableAmong Among some of the likely starters in this Saturdays distance contest are Flag Cadet Double R Agnes Knight Laura Kiev Bar Exam and Lina Mac but at least five more are expected to be included in the list be ¬ fore the deadline for making entries is reached reachedAs As an added attraction the annual run ¬ ning of the Gentlemens Cup race graces the ninerace program that has been ar ¬ ranged for the ringing down of the curtain on the twentysevenday midsummer session here The Gentlemens Cup race which es ¬ tablished its popularity in the past few years in this section is a dash of six fur ¬ longs and will have virtually all of the best amateur riders of his section displaying their wares
