INCREASE HOMEWOOD PURS Washington Park Officials to Follow Governor Homers Suggestion Bate of Increase to Be Decided Monday MondayOpening Opening Day of Meeting According Accordingto to President Gregory HOMEWOOD 111 July 26 Walter L Gregory president of the Washington Park Jockey Club announced today that purses and stakes for the Washington Park meet ing which opens next Monday will be in ¬ creased in accordance with a request by Governor Henry Horner When Governor Horner signed a bill increasing the take 1 per cent at Illinois tracks he expressed a desire that more purse money be distributed to horsemen horsemenJust Just how much the increase at the south side track will be or how the additional money will be extended over the program will be decided Monday said Gregory He plans to confer with racing secretary Charles J McLennan and other Washington Park officials before announcing the tracks policy policyWashington Washington Parks first condition book is out with the original purse announcement The increase will be decided upon and put into effect as soon as possible Gregory said saidMEETS MEETS HORSEMENS APPROVAL APPROVALJThe JThe announcement of the increased purses struck a popular note among horsemen al ¬ ready here awaiting Mondays opening and it will attract many stables which otherwise might have headed in different directions There are already approximately 150 horses on the scene right now and they are coming in daily from such points as California Ohio Kentucky and of course from Arling ¬ ton Park where the season ends Saturday SaturdayAmong Among the larger establishments already on the grounds is the Dixiana stable of Charles T Fisher but many other big sta ¬ bles will be here this weekend According to word received here today R T Watts is en route from California with the stable of Lawrence Barker BarkerSome Some of the stables now at Arlington which will be here are those of Emerson F Woodward who maintains the Valdina Farms Morris Vehon Mrs John Marsch Roscoe Goose S Bryant Ott Lexbrook Sta ¬ ble Friedberg Axton Mrs Kirby Ramsey Bennett Creech and a division of the Calu ¬ met Farm
