galloped to an easy and impressive triumph in the fortyeighth run ¬ ning of the mile Metropolitan Handicap which headlined todays program Respond ¬ ing like the superlative performer he is to Harry Richards every demand Eight Thirty came from far off a good early pace to drive through between horses at the top of the home lane and on to victory by two lengths at the direct expense of Col E R Bradleys featherweighted Bold and Bad who carried his 102 pounds home a length before Greentree Stables stoutly finishing Hash The last named second highweight of the brilliant field under 123 was a head in advance of The Chief as the latter earned fourth money moneyThe The historic Metropolitan had as its sup porting feature the sixtyfifth running of the Juvenile Stakes in which Calumet Farms colts Sun Again and Some Chance were onetwo in that order well in front of The Barrington Stables Scotland Light as he accounted for third place Eight Thirtys tally was the more popular of the two for he was an oddson public choice and re ¬ turned 360 for 2 while the Wright pair paid 1020 in a race in which one of the entry Some Chance contributed to the de ¬ feat of the favored Amphitheatre in breaking from the outside stall angled over to the rail to be second in the first eighth about a length off Roman Flag and with Bold and Bad keeping him close company Roman Flag continued to scamper along on a daylight lead in the run through the baik stretch with Bold and Bad and Roman going along together just back of him and the favorite having just one horse Hash beaten at the fivefurlong pole Richards had not asked him to run however and leaving the back stretch began to ease ofl his hold and the Erdenheim horse passed three horses in a twinkling while saving considerable ground on the rail railEIGHT EIGHT THIRTY MOVES UP UPOn On the bend Roman and Bold and Bad moved to Roman Flag as the three skimmed around there with Eight Thirty moving off the rail slightly and right on their heels as they swung into the front stretch There Roman was beginning to hang and Eight Thirty went through between him and Ro ¬ man Flag as Bold and Bad raced down on the rail railComing Coming to the eighth post when Bold and Bad Roman Flag and Eight Thirty were head and head Bold and Bad swerved out off the rail and hit Roman Flag who caromed off Eight Thirty as the latter forged to the front In the last furlong it was just a question of by how far the big chestnut horse would win Roman Flag dropped out of it after his mishap but Bold and Bad continued steadily under a drive for second and Hash last on the turn ran over the tired horses to be third just a head before The Chief ChiefSun Sun Again was easily best of the represen ¬ tative field of nine meeting in the sixtyfifth running of the Juvenile Stakes galloping to the final marker in new track record time of 58J 58Ji i over the Juvenile Course to add 8175 to the rapidly swelling Calumet ac ¬ count He was three lengths clear of his stablemate Some Chance as Eads snugged him to the line in time twofifths of a sec ¬ ond swifter than the favored Amphitheatre ran in establishing the o mark The Bar rington Stables Scotland Light was third another length and onehalf away and half a length before the unfortunate Amphi ¬ theatre theatreThis This was the second Belmont fixture to fall to Sun Again who had won the Jockey Club ON WEIGHT COLT COLTIn In the Juvenile Eads on Sun Again and Haas one Some Chance worked a double play on the field that while successful left the backers of Amphitheatre in particular something less than satisfied satisfiedSome Some Chance went away fast from the inside and took Albatross by the head in the dash to the turn where Amphitheatre was racing outside the latter At the home cor ¬ ner Some Chance carried those outside him past the middle of the race track and left a gap on the rail large enough to drive two trucks through for Sun Again who had been going along about two lengths back and just waiting for such a spread Eads drove him through there to the lead at the eighth post and then moved off to his clearcut score while Some Chance straightened up after leaving the others out there in the race track to take the place placeAlbatross Albatross and Amphitheatre continued steadily after their ill luck and Scotland Light uncorked a burst of speed in the final furlong that gained him the third money Party Buster had speed as did Highbor ough and Requested was in the thick of it on the oujtside until Some Chance went wide stiff wind blowing down the stretch made for the
