Berger always had a handful of horse under him and although he was out of the gate in front of his rivals the young rider took his mount back and reserved his speed until the turn for home At that point he sent the Torchilla gelding up on the inside to take command and pulled away down through the stretch to the length and a half margin he had in his favor in front of My Shadow at the final marker Torch Gleam was timed in 113 and paid 1440 to those who supported him Royal Blue finished third
