SUFFOLK STEWARDS RELEASE FINDINGS IN CAPE COD CASE CASEColt Colt Suffered Splint During Running of Race on June 9 9BOSTON BOSTON Mass June 19 The following notice was released by the Suffolk Downs stewards stewardsThe The stewards of Suffolk Downs have com ¬ pleted their inquiry into the running of the sixth race on Monday ne 9 This inquiry was made as a result of the unequal per ¬ formance of the horse Cape Cod in that race and his race of June 14 seventh race the Commonwealth Handicap They ques ¬ tioned on Mondar June 9 trainer Archer and jockey Smith regarding Cape Cods race of that day dayFollowing Following the runuing of the Common ¬ wealth Handicap Jun 14 won by Cape Cod the stewards questioned Dr H M Lewis trainer R B Archer and jockey Eddie Smith on Monday June 16 16Dr Dr Lewis reported that he had the care of the horse since Tuesday morning June 10 that the splint was on the shin bone that he had applied antiseptic packs with hot and cold water After a satisfactory workout on Friday that the horse was ready to run the soreness having been removed Accordingly he advised Mr Archer to run Cape Cod in the stake stating that he would pin fire him on Sunday which was done and that the horse would be ready to run again by June 21t 21tOn On the testimony of the veterinarians the stewards must interpret the performance of Cape Cod on June 9 to the development of a splint during the running of the race and his performance on June 14 to satisfactory reaction to the treatment prescribed by Dr Lewis for him
