BETSY ROSS STAKES TO TEST JUVENILE FIELD OF FILLIES FILLIESFlying Flying Indian Astoria Winner Will Start in Suffolk Race RaceBOSTON BOSTON Mass June 19 Many of the turf worlds most attractive debutantes will hold their 1941 coming out party at Suffolk Downs Saturday afternoon in tb fourth running of the 7500 Betsy Ross Stakes for twoyearold fillies inaugurated in 1938 for a 2500 prize The purse was boosted in 1939 and 1940 to 5000 and raised again this session to a record 7500 attracting nomi ¬ nations of sixtyseven of the top youngsters of their age and sex sexOutstanding Outstanding among the prospective mem ¬ bers of Saturdays paddock party is Flying Indian a chestnuthaired miss which only last Saturday in New York won the Astoria Stakes by negotiating five and onehalf fur ¬ longs in 105 thereby equaling the Aque ¬ duct track record Flying Indian is owned by Mrs Tony Pelleteri whose Bay View won last winters 100000 Santa Anita Handicap She cost 1000 at Saratoga but has already earned a half dozen times her purchase price priceFlying Flying Indian will doubtless start favorite to win the large end of the 7500 Betsy Ross Stake for she arrived here from Aqueduct but despite her prestige there will be others fancied by many Hal Price Headley has shipped especially for the stake the Equi ¬ poise filly Lotopoise and the more plebeian named Pig Tails John H Whitneys colors too will be seen at Suffolk Downs for the first time this season borne by Banjo Eyes a winner at Belmont two weeks ago PAIR OF BLUE LARKSPUR FILLIES FILLIESCol Col E R Bradley is another big name breeder represented in the stakes and his nominations are Bums Rush and Best of All a pair of Blue Larkspur fillies which have been working well since their arrival There is also the gray filly Begda which led her field to the finish upon her maiden appearance at the Downs track earlier In the month monthNot Not the least interesting of the starters will be Irish Ivy the Pharamond filly pur ¬ chased early this spring by W W Adams from Hal Price Headley and presented by the Boston sportsman to his threeyearold daughter little Wendy Ann Adams under whose colors Irish Ivy will run this week Irish Ivy may not capture the stake but she will probably be in for some division of the spoils as she has been in her last ten starts There are others in the field any one of which may upset calculations by being first to bow to the judges at the finish The twoyearolds are not infrequently that sur ¬ prising
