Transfer of Empire Meet To Jamaica Is Requested RequestedCurtailment Curtailment of Gasoline to Vans Moving Horses Prompts Petition PetitionALBANY ALBANY N Y June 2 William F Bleakley of Westchester County as attor ¬ ney for the Empire City Racing Associa ¬ tion today requested permission of the New York State Racing Commission to transfer Empires summer race meeting from its track at Yonkers New York to the Jamaica race track at Jamaica Long Island IslandThis This request was made because the critical gasoline situation has forced a drastic curtailment of gasoline allotted to commercial vehicles used to van horses During the metropolitan racing season many of the horses are stabled at the Long Island tracks and transported by vans from one track to another anotherThe The haul between the Long Island tracks and Yonkers is of such a distance that the Empire Jity Racing Association feels that considerable gasoline needed for vital war and essential home use would be consumed In order to avoid any waste of gasoline the Empire City Racing Asso ¬ ciation has therefore requested that their track be closed during the summer meet from June 28 to July 24 and that that meet be shifted to the Jamaica track trackDoctor Doctor Edward P Kilgore president of the Metropolitan Jockey Club which owns the Jamaica track has volunteered to place the entire facilities of the Jamaica track at the disposal of the Empire City Racing Association if the change of racing dates is approved
