Eight Hundred Horses Await Omaha Opening OpeningList List TwentyThree Members of Handicap Division in Group GroupAKSARBEN AKSARBEN OmaharNeb May 21 Training activities at Omahas modern AkSarBen track have been greatly accel ¬ erated during the past several days due to the arrival of scores of horses from almost every sector of the United States Included among the stables now on the grounds are those from Florida California Kentucky Rhode Island Illinois and the home state of Nebraska NebraskaAt At present some 800 thoroughbreds are undergoing preliminary conditioning over the recently renovated racing strip with numerous others expected to put in their appearance before the opening of the 32 day meeting which will get under way on Tuesday May 25 and conclude on Monday July 5 As in the past the local plant will not present racing on Sunday or Mondays with the exception of May 31 and July 5 Post time for all programs except Thurs ¬ day twilight sessions will be 2 p m Cen ¬ tral Standard Time First pqst for the dusk cards will be 330 p m Ladies Day will be offered on Tuesdays and Fridays FridaysFeature Feature attraction of Tuesdays opening day program is the 2500 AkSarBen Inaugural Handicap a sixfurlong dash for threeyearolds and upward Entries for this fixture close on Saturday May 22 with weights and acceptances to be announced the following Monday Racing secretary Raleigh Leigh contemplates having the finest handicap fields in the history of the AkSarBen course for the Inaugural and other feature presentations A recent check of the registrations shows there are 23 horses currently quartered at the track who have raced in stakes and handicap races at other leading ovals ovalsSchooling Schooling exercised under the supervision of starter Noel Chilcutt and his staff have been conducted during the past 10 days for the benefit of the early arrivals and will be continued daily throughout the meeting from 7 a m to 9 a m mThe The Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau has established tattooing facilities at AkSarBen for all horses who have not as yet undergone this method of identifi ¬ cation Charles Hyland in charge of the lip tattooing wishes all Horsemen to at ¬ tend to this matter as quickly as possible inasmuch as all thoroughbreds desiring to race on other member tracks under the jurisdiction of the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of the United States must be properly identified N
