New Training Oval Gives Delaware Fifth Course CourseFiveEighths FiveEighths Mile Strip Located Adjacent to Track Stabling Area AreaSTANTON STANTON Del May 21 Delaware Park will have five tracks ready for the thoroughbreds when racing begins at the lovely spot near Wilmington on May 29 The addition of the fiveeighths mile training oval adjacent to the stable area vas of great interest to horsemen and became the fifth strip in the setup at the big 400acre plant plantThis This new training track carefully pat ¬ terned after the regular oval was built by track superintendent Clarke Pardee The liveeighths mile strip is 50 feet wide and there is a threefoot grade or bank across the width of the track trackThree Three tracks for jumpers round out the complement of racing and training strips at Delaware Park The regular steeplechase course is a picturesque layout with stately hedges water jumps and grass surface The course was planned and supervised by WilliamDuPont Jr one of the founders of the track and number one authority on the brush courses in the United States StatesThe The championship steeplechase course over which the Indian River and George ¬ town classics are run crosses the main track twice The timber in the stretch above the main track is very tough to negotiate DuPont also planned the championship course and last year added the hurdles to the Delaware Park race plant providing still another variety of thrills for the fans of Delaware Park who annually flock to the Stanton strip for the 30day meeting which runs from May 29 to July 5
