Prominent Racing Personages In Belmonf Crowd of 43046 Spacious Westchester Track Able to Accommodate Huge Crowd Very Comfortably ComfortablyBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y June 12 Belmont Park greeted a holiday gathering of 43046 this afternoon out to see the eightieth running of the Belmont Stakes In spite of the throng that began to filter into the beautiful Long Island course early this morning Belmont proved itself quite capable of accommodating its patrons comfortably and the spacious grounds have never presented a more pleas ¬ ing picture The clubhouse and grandstand banked with pink hydrangeas recalled Longchamps during the Grande Semaine and the stately vines offered welcome shade from the heat of a rather torrid June sun Man o Wars mammoth statue by Haseltine graced the paddock but only one of the great progenitors descendants was a starter in the classic event Glen Riddle Farms Faraway a chestnut son of War Relic A hand was playing in the Turf and Field enclosure and altogether it was truly a gala occasion occasionAs As usual society sport the theatrical and political worlds business and plain John Q Public were all represented in the colorful crowd Noticed at luncheon par ¬ ties in the Turf and Field enclosure and in the clubhouse restaurant were John C Clark president of Hialeah Mr and Mrs John Hertz owners of Stoner Creek and Amarillo stock farms Russell A Firestone prominent owner and breeder Mrs Eliza ¬ beth Graham owner of the Maine Chance Stable Leigh Battson president of Los An ¬ geles Turf Club Warner L Jones and Mrs Jones of Hermitage Farm Mr and Mrs Arthur B Hancock Jr of Claiborne Farm George Di Gorgio owner of El Favorito Farm C V Whitney Walter M Jeffords and Alfred Vanderbilt in from Baltimore New Jersey state racing commissioner Lewis E Waring Mr and Mrs Samuel D Riddle of Glen Riddle Farm Mr and Mrs Warren Wright of Calumet and Mr and Mrs William L Brann BrannZiegler Ziegler Comes Up From Virginia VirginiaWilliam William Ziegler was a visitor from Mid dleburg Vas and Mrs Dodge Sloane was also up from the South for the big race William Cane Avho presents the Hamble tonian classic of the harness turf each August at Goshen watched the thorough ¬ breds in company with Frank Hague John F Curry former political leader R C Winmill prominent financier Nelson I Asiel E P Taylor Canadian owner Ar ¬ nold Hanger breeder and owner Dr Gerald Smith interested in the Saratoga Association and Rigan McKinney all roamed the paddock between races racesAshley Ashley T Cole chairman of the New York State Racing Commission William C Langley and Harry Millar were the official representatives of the sport in attendance while Spencer Drayton of the TRA J Ed ¬ gar Hoover and Clyde Tolson of the FBI and Frank Bring Em Back Alive Buck were also noticed in the crowd
