Applications for Scarborough Stalls Exceeding Expectations SCARBOROUGH, Maine, June 1.— Sidney M. Goldfine, general manager of Scarborough Downs, announced today that stall applications for the 56-day meeting open- ing June 30, have exceeded all expectations, both as to number and quality. Racing secretary Gordon W. Morrow is already at work assigning stalls. The course itself will be ready for horses on June 10, and there is every indication that there will be many arrivals on and shortly after that date. Every assurance has been given horsemen that the session will be completed as scheduled, with the majority of the programs staged at night. Morrow, who has had considerable experience with the closing of entries 48 hours before race day, will accept entries on that schedule at this meeting. The 48- hour closing has proved highly accepted to horsemen wherever it has been in vogue and it has permitted racing secretaries to present well-filled, interesting programs. This early entry method has been used at Sunshine Park, in Florida, and was inaugurated at the major New England courses this year.
