Martha P in Favorites Role at Suffolk Downs DownsGushen DownsN N Gushen Homebred Heads Field Of Seven in Wakefield Purse PurseSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass April 30 Martha P Irving Gushens homebred threeyearold daughter of First Fiddle Discouraged heads a band of seven sophomores slated to vie at six furlongs in tomorrows Wakefield Purse which is fea ¬ tured at Suffolk Downs Following a return to form at the recent Gulfstream Park meeting Martha P started here in the Paul Revere Handicap last Saturday and although she was no match for the win ¬ ning Handsome Teddy she clearly estab ¬ lished herself as a potent factor in races of tomorrows caliber Breaking from an inside position in the Paul Revere she set a rapid pace over a sloppy oval and held her lead to the stretch turn where the ultimate winner made his move Through the stretch the Gushen miss weakened under the early effort and wound up third There are no rivals the caliber of Handsome Teddy in tomorrows race and Martha P will probably be a decided choice in the small field fieldSlated Slated to compete against the Gushen filly are Rebel Stables Shell Diver C R Millers Dynastic Llangollen Farms Devils Chant N J Fillmans Tobacco Finer Mario Stables Sailed Away and G S Colellas Jims Yen YenSailed Sailed Away highly regarded as a ju ¬ venile on the New England circuit last year has been in action at Lincoln Downs this spring but as yet has not been re ¬ turned a winner His last was a good third behind Desirable and Essential Prior to that at New Orleans Fair Grounds the War Admiral colt won a fast run race de ¬ feating Shell Diver DiverShell Shell Diver will be making his New Eng ¬ land debut in the Wakefield having been out of action since March 6 at Fair Grounds In that race the Devil Diver colt finished third to Nobility and Quick Tulip capable sprinters Besides the second to Sailed Away the colt had a winning effort in New Orleans during the recent winter session sessionDynastic Dynastic heralded as one of the top juveniles in the early days of last years New England season disapointed after get ¬ ting the bad habit of racing wide in his races When capably handled the Tiger gelding can be counted on to give a good account of himself He started once at Lincoln Downs this spring and finished third thirdDevils Devils Chant was a winner at Charles Town last fall and also annexed one vic ¬ tory at Sunshine Park The Stenenfetchit filly is not overmatched in the Wakefield
