Abstract Leads Five Foes Home in Suffolk Feature FeatureKeene Keene Has Mount Two Lengths Before Whirling Bat at Wire WireBy By AVERY BROWN BROWNStaff Staff Correspondent CorrespondentSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass April 30 Cobles Stables Abstract bested five rivals in the mile and onesixteenth feature at Suffolk Downs this afternoon annexing his first triumph of the 1952 sea 1 son Two lengths back of the son of Iso later Tommy Mays Whirling Bat took the runnerup spot also two lengths in the van of Cherry Oca Stables Tio Giro Tamarack Stables Sapajou was well beaten in the fourth position but plenty in advance of the other two starters Futuresque and Blue Thanks ThanksFor For the first day in a week the sun shone brightly at this seaside track and with a light wind prevailing the track dried out to be termed slow throughout the after ¬ noon A crowd of 11288 took advantage of the day and the majority of the gathering gave their support to Abstract to bring the total of winning favorites to three for the first seven races The backers received 540 while the owners of the sixyearold stallion picked up 2100 as the winners share of the 3500 purse Abstract nego ¬ tiated the middle distance in 145 to give Harold Red Keene his second winner of the day Earlier the Lowell Mass jockey had scored the outsider Muscat in the sec ¬ ond race to provide 19080 Daily Double payoff payoffTip Tip Giro displayed the early speed in the feature and at one point of the run down the backstretch was five lengths in front of his nearest rival Sapajou Whirling Bat was just off the runnerup and about three lengths farther back The ultimate winner was biding his time Sapajou and Whirl ¬ ing Bat made simultaneous moves round ¬ ing the far turn to cut the leaders margin to a couple of lengths lengthsTio Tio Giro continued to dominate after straightening for the drive through the stretch but Whirling Bat and Abstract charged stoutly and as both went on by the weakening pacemaker Keene had the stronger finisher under him and the vic ¬ tory was well earned
