Sonic Makes Good As Strong Choice ChoiceLeads Leads From End to End at Garden State Park While Unification Finishes Second SecondBy By FRED GALIANI GALIANIStaff Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK Camden N J April 30 Winning like an oddson choice should King Ranchs Sonic led from end to end in the featured Mt Holly Purse here today much to the gratification of his backers Three lengths in back of Sonic came William G Helis Jrs Unification while it was the same margin to Maner Stables Loridale J Gavegnanos Fighting Fleet was just nosed out of the money moneySonic Sonic who was shipped down from New York was ridden by Ira Hanf ord arid paid 360 for his mile and a sixteenth journey in 146 He was 320 to place in the Mt Holly the majority of the crowd of 15793 fans placing supreme confidence in Sonics ability to win They were well re ¬ warded by an easy victory on another pleasant day The weather was clear and warm for the second day of the meeting This was Sonics first victory since he won the Experimental Handicap No 2 last spring although he did finish first in the Blue Grass Stakes only to be disqualified Since then he competed in top stakes com ¬ pany but failed to live up to his early in ¬ dications of being a good colt He had been out twice previously this year running third to Spartan Valor in the Excelsior Handicap and being beaten as a stout choice in an overnight handicap at Jamaica The field he beat was probably the least impressive competition of his career but he picked up 3725 for the King Ranch RanchFeels Feels Whip Few Times Timesv v Ira Hanford touched Sonic a couple of times with the whip coming out of the gate and soon had him in the lead under a good hold Friendly Frank raced right with him in the run to the far turn while Lori dale was close up and Unification was next to last past the stands Sonic con tinued to lead easily around the turn and down the backstretch with Friendly Frank and Unification who had slipped through an opening on the rail running third with Loridale fourth fourthFriendly Friendly Frank was unable to make any inroads on Sonics lead and soon dropped back while Unification came to the out ¬ side to make his bid Rounding the turn Sonic had a clear twolength advantage and though Unification had moved into a closer position Hanford was sitting still on Sonic Sonic was never threatened as he raced to the finish line with his ears straight up and there was plenty of day ¬ light between him and Unification Lori dale came along in time for the third money and just got up over Fighting Fleet
