Royal Marvel Gains Impressive Victory VictoryLeads Leads Im Sandy by Half Length Under Handling of Jockey Gonzalez in Sprint SprintBy By FRED GALIANI GALIANIStaff Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 7 Eddie Siravos Royal Marvel New Englands hope for threeyearold honors won his second race at the meeting in im ¬ pressive style here today scoring by a half length over JayBob Stables Im Sandy in the Atlantic Purse A length back in third place came J L Friedmans Oreo who was shipped up from New York Mario Stables Sailed Away was fourth in the field of eight horses horsesJockey Jockey Roberto Gonzalez turned in a perfect ride on Royal Marvel sitting chilly on the horse as the field was bunched in the backstretch then moving when the time was ripe Royal Marvel was the choice and paid 440 The Royal Nap colt covered the six furlongs in 113 not too fast a race but none of the times turned in this afternoon were on the rapid side A crowd of 11152 turned out on a clear but chilly day which started off with threats of rain but turned sunny as the afternoon wore on This was Royal Mar ¬ vels fourth win in eight starts this year He won a race in Florida and one at Lin ¬ coln before shipping here and a number of turfmen here think the colt may develop into a good horse horseSlight Slight Delay at Start StartThe The start of the Atlantic Purse was de ¬ layed a trifle as both Sailed Away and Shell Diver went through the gate before the break They were quickly put back in the barrier and the field sent on its way Sailed Away although stumbling slightly rushed up into the lead with four horses necks apart in the run down the back stretch Behind Sailed Away were Rushing Jack Royal Marvey Oreo and Dynastic while Pinocchio Shell Diver and Im Sandy trailed in that order orderGoing Going into the far turn Sailed Away was still going along on the front end and Rush ¬ ing Jack was sent through on the inside as Gonzalez finding room sent Royal Marvel up in his bid As they came into the head of the stretch Sailed Away was in between Rushing Jack on the rail and Royal Marvel on the outside while Oreo stablemate of Rushing Jack was sent tip between horses The opening between Sailed Away and Rushing Jack closed and Oreo had to take up and go over onto the rail railRoyal Royal Marvel had a clear path on the outside and gradually drew out on his rivals as both Sailed Away and Rushing Jack started dropping back In the mean ¬ time Im Sandy had worked her way up from the rear and was coming with ground devouring strides far on the outside It looked for a moment as if she would catch the favorite but Gonzalez kept to his task and Royal Marvel had no trouble in hold ¬ ing his lead Shell Divers late bid earned him second money while Oreo finished third down on the rail
