Sportsmans Park Notebook Duncan MacLachlans Have Balanced Stable in Training at Sportsmans Park By J J MURPHY SPORTSMANS PARK Cicero 111 May 6 Mr and Mrs Duncan L MacLachlan of Winnipeg Man Canada are among the more popular turf folk with horses at this meeting The runners compete in the name of Mrs MacLachlan with her hus ¬ band being the trainer They have stabled here quite a shifty runner in Heart Flash as well n several others of ability Mac ¬ Lachlan is a thorough ¬ ly competent horseman who has been in the business for many years and has condi ¬ tioned hundreds of runners in his day He claimed Heart Flash a six year old son of Seven Hearts at Ran ¬ dall Park last August for 2000 and the horse won 11 races hi 18 starts last year taking down 18050 in purse money Dur ¬ ing the winter at Tropical Park Heart Flash was moved into stakes ranks and competed against such sprinters as Hypha sis Algasir Elixir and Eatontown all eastern stakes winners at the Florida course and in his two added money starts outran those speedsters for a halfmile Dropping back to allowance company in his first start this year Heart Flash won two of his first three races both at the five and a half furlongs distance and led all the way The MacLachlans also1 have Our Kite and several others in their stable and following this session their horses will be shipped to Washington Park and will take part in the Lincoln Fields meeting It will be the first time they have ever raced at a Lincoln session sessionA A A A ARacing Racing secretary Robert McAuliffe cele ¬ brated his 43rd birthday today in getting out the condition books for the last two weeks of racing at Sportsmans Park Mc Auliffes races have been filling well and in the way of offering congratulations his staff staged a small party for him in the office this morning Vasco Parke made the arrangements and acted as master of cere ¬ monies However his talk was held to one minute inasmuch as the boys were of the opinion that if Vasco ever got off on the subject of big Idaho potatoes his oration would go on all afternoon McAuliffe is also distributing the stake books for the coming meeting of the Michigan Racing Association at Detroit A A ATwentyone Twentyone horses the property of Grace Kosiba who makes her home in Detroit will be shipped to the Motor City soon in charge of trainer Harold Hoffman Sub Factor one of the number and a re ¬ cent winner over a good field at Churchill Downs will be back to run in the Peabody Memorial at Lincoln Fields A rumor prevalent here today had it that Admiral Porter who ran such a good race to be fifth in the Kentucky Derby might be shipped to Pimlico for a crack at the Preakness PreaknessA A A A AWhen When Springbuck won here Wednesday it marked the first winner that trainer N A McMaster had saddled for the Wood view Stable since taking over the condition ¬ ing of the thoroughbreds of that outfit re ¬ cently Have a letter from Eddie Roach Roachan an old friend and former race track em ¬ ploye stating that his daughter Winnie will attempt to break Florence Chadwicks Catalina swim record this summer Miss Roach is now training at Long Beach Calif She completed an English Channel swim last year Another letter from Joe McCarthy Saratoga oldtimer who saw Boundless win the American Derby of 1893 with Snapper Garrison in the saddle Owner Marion Van Berg will be racing on three fronts within a short time He will have horses in training at Chicago Detroit and Fairmount Park Horses owned by Van Berg won 347210 in purse money last year to place the Nebraska turfman eighth on the list of moneywhining owners His horses won 134 races placing second only to William Hal Bishop in that department The Bishop horses won 153 races and 360514 and placed sixth on the list of winning owners ownersA A A A AAmong Among the thoroughbreds now quartered at Lincoln Fields are 10 in charge of trainer R C Adams 12 in charge of J P Keezek five with Joe Bolleroi 14 in charge of A Lamoureaux 11 owned by Jimmy Emery and 20 in the stable of Arnold Winick From here it appears as if the employes may have a rather difficult time getting to Lincoln Fields As we understand it there will be no early trains The first race spe ¬ cial will depart from Chicago at 1130 Those wishing to go earlier must take a suburban train part way and then transfer to a bus Jockey Harold Keene will of Dame dHonneur and another out of Blenette both by Espino Gold have been sent to Ride a Wee Farm at Tinley Park 111 by trainer Frank Nugent Starter Roy Dickersons as ¬ sistants here are Jim Thompson Bill Simp ¬ son Bob Thomas and Jack Caldwell and they are doing an excellent job
