Wide Assortment of Pets Invade AkSarBen Barns BarnsThree Three Goats in Wells Domestic Zoo Meeting Opens on May 20 20OMAHA OMAHA Nebr May 7 Each spring at this time a wide and interesting assortment of animals in varying degrees of pet form invade AkSarBen field prior to the opening of the thoroughbred racing season seasonThis This year promices to offer no exception in the inhabitants of AkSarBens domes ¬ tic zoo There is always the usual run of cats and dogs canaries and parakeets And in past years horsemen have stopped to take a second look at a monkey a rabbit or even a goose sharing a stall with a race horse One year a visiting horseman had a flock of spring chickens that proved espe ¬ cially popular from a palatable point of view viewAmong Among the first of this years stable pet family at the Omaha over is Baby a frisky little twoweekold Arkansasbred Nebraskafoaled goat Baby is a snowwhite bundle of energy trouble speed and inquis itiveness And shes as cute as any goat kid ever was She is one of three kids born at AkSarBen field two weeks ago The mother is fiveyearold Sally a registered goat owned by Harry Wells veteran horse ¬ man from Hot Springs Ark ArkStable Stable pets are kept as companions for forrace race horses and Wells thinks a goat does doesthe the best job in keeping a nervous horse horsecalm calm Besides I like goat milk and Sally gives two gallon day Wells admits Wells will have two runners compaigning at AkSarBens 35day meeting which starts Thursday May 20 Both are well known to local racing fans especially Gal ¬ loway K a fouryearold who had six vic ¬ tories last year The other is Peach Basket a twotime winner last year
