Prince of Song, badly deficient in speed in the first part of the race, saved much ground on the stretch bend and outgamad Donna Bella in the stretch run. Donna Bella forced the pace for the first three-quarters, but made a wide swing into the stretch, which cost her the race. Custodian weakened in the stretch run. Prince John saved a lot of ground on the last turn, but quit in the last eighth. Henrys Sister and Assassin showed early speed. Both quit badly. Overweights Donna Bella, 3 pounds; Custodian, 2. Insolence was crowded soon after the start and in a pocket while going down the backstretch and saved ground on the last turn, but faltered in the last seventy yards. Martha Street ran her race and had no mishaps. Winifred Norwood was taken the longest way and but for this would have finished in the money. Venus Victrix showed a flash of speed. So did Tempt. Baffled, favored by the going and well handled, finished well and was the best. Meggs saved ground on the last two turns and finished fast. Senator Beveridge began slowly, but responded gamely under punishment, Huzzah, a strong contender in the early stages, swerved badly in the run home under punishment and Irven waB forced to resort to hand riding. Prince Light showed a flash of early speed. Lou Rey was ridden all over the track and should have been much closer up. Sir Ellerslie, a strong factor throughout, only weakened when going over the last jump. Terry Ranger ran well in the -first turn of the field, but his bad lags bothered him after that and he pulled up lame. Gray Bill Higgihs was beaten off. Pretty Rosie was by far the best of the field and led handily until over the last obstacle where ba made a bad landing and went down. Scratched 35118 Cubanite, 125. Lord Frazer avoided a jam on the turn soon after the start, showed the most early speed and won with much in reserve. Lelia Barr showed smart improvement and a liking for the going. Jigger ran his race and had no mishaps. Prancer ran a good race and should improve. Dynasty was off in a tangle and finished strongly. Jim Nap was deficient in speed. John Ruskin stumbled soon after the start and unseated his rider. Scratched 35264 La Gorta, 100; 35174 Billy Dean, 100. Corrected weights Dynasty, 98.
