MILES WINS LONG FIGHT FOR HORSE. Is to Have Platoon Back Five Men Are Suspended as a Result. At their meeling here yesterday the stewards of the Western Jockey Club ordered that C. 0. Gill return to Paul J. Miles the live-yoar-old brown gehllug. Platoon, by Prig Hermesito, and Phil King, C. C. Gill, Hugh .Monroe, George W. Clarke and A. W. Illume, who have been Identified with the handling of the horse since March ::, 1900, were suspended from the turf. It was decided to pass an accounting of the horses winnings since that date for future action, but it is understood that Miles is to have ample compensation. Miles started Platoon in a selling race at Oak-lawn, Hot Springs, March 3, lOOti, and he finished fourth. Phil King claimed Platoon for ,500 and started liim in his name March C. From that date until May lit, 1007. the horse ran in Gills name. On the latter date he started In the name of Hugh Monroe at Toronto. Miles set up and proved the charge that King and Gill were In collusion and that the claiming of Platoon was Irregular. Since 1he horse passed out of Miles hands he has started in thirty-nine races, won twelve, been second twice, third seven times and has taken net in purses ,020. Little else was done at the meeting of the stewards. Applications for Heenses and apprentice allowances were acted upon. The application of John Treubel for jockey license was passed for future action. The protest of A. II. Maginnis and Co. against payment of forfeit of 0 was dismissed, and a. hospital hill of 0 for services to injured jockeys was approved and ordered paid.
