August 13.— Much racing of minor Importance has been disposed of since the memorable Goodwood meeting was added to turf history, but nothing of the sensational order has cropped up at any of the recent meetings. One feature that is worth noting is the frequent successes of American-bred horses here and there. Since the first day of the present month alone Donuez Moi. the Hamburg — Blue Oirl filly. Torchbearer, Kinearb. Columbus. Rally Sand. Carnea. Waterwillow. Waierlcaf, ChanrI, Pine Knot. Pond Menfories. Election. Water-weed. Hasty Pudding. Queen Tii am! Hugo have won at various meetings a total of seventeen races. J. It. Joels thme Watercress fillies. Waierlcaf. Waterweed and Waterwillow are much more than paying their way and have fully justified the good judgment exhibited in purchasing them at the sale of Mr. Ilaggins yearlings. Perhaps none of them is a real 8 or. but all are speedy and more than useful. Nearly all of the horses named are in English ownership and are considered favorably in their stables. Major Mel.auglilins Sombrero CUM, Colum-hus. won 1 ho Brighton Stakes recently anil is quite a good handicap horse. His Serene Highness Prince Kinsky. the head of one of the obtest . richest and most powerful families in the Austrian empire, is to race in England next year. His highness has been an honorary member of the Jockey Club since 190C. As Count Charles Kinsky. once attache at the A astro-Hungarian embassy, lie was immensely popular in society. He was the first foreigner to win the Grand National, having ridden Zoedone in 1883 to victory. Prince Kinsky has many estates, six of which are in Bo hernia. At Herman me tsee his father kept huge racing anil breeding studs, and the forests and preserves in Bohemia are among the best in Europe for quality and variety of sport. The princes racing colors are white, silver buttons, red belt and cap. with silver tassel. In the Derby of 1912 His Majesty King George V. has the following engaged: Colt by Florizel II. — Loch Boon; colt by Florizel II. — Batten Hen: colt by Thrush— Laodamia : colt by Yolodyovski — Runaway Match, and colt by Lord Bobs — Mira-belle. In the Oaks for the same year his majesty has entered a filly by Flying Fox — April Princess; ■fly by Florizel II. — Sweet Vernal, and filly by Martagon- Mnndon. J. It. Joel has run ten horses not including Spanish Prince during the last fortnight, and eight of them have been returned winners — a record that his trainer. Charles Morton, might well be proud of. Tom French, the well-known jockey, who was stricken with an attack of congestion some days ago. and has died at Chantilly, was only forty-two years old. and is much regretted by his numerous friends, who appreciated his thorough loyally and honesty. He came over to France from England with V. Webb, the trainer, in 18S1, ami some fifteen years ago was one of the prominent jockeys riding there. French won the Eclipse Stakes on Le Justicier in Is:i5 for Karon Sehiekler. He rode with success for Albert Menier and Edmonil Blanc. He was engaged in Italy, and of late years rode in Roumania, where his skill was mm h appreciated. The Epsom Jockey keeps trick-and-tie with Trigg, and the pair are at forty-six. though Wootton has the advantage of a better winning average. Higgs has put on four points dining the past week, and still holds fourth place. Saxby is fifth and the brothers Griggs tie for sixth position, as tiny did seven days ago.
