• THE RACING OF FLEET HAMBURG BELLE. Hamburg Belle was fouled iu 1901 and so. when she died. Thursday night, was taken away premature! v. Slie was one of the l est race mares of recent turf history and winner of |.oto as the result of having lieen unplaced but five times in the twenty-nine races in which she started. A a two-year old she won the Criterion Stakes at Cravesend. Rosebuds Stakes at Sheepshead Bay and the Futnritv Stakes at Sheenshend Bav. beside; several purse races. The Brighton Oak . Fall Handicap. FPght Stakes and the Hunter Handicap fell to her when a three-year-old. and when a four-year-old she won the Coney Island Handicap. Equality Stakes and. for the second time, the Flight Stakes, liesides a number of purses. The next year she wen the Equality Stakes again and also the Brighton Mile. She was gifted with great speed and numbers the mighty sprinter Roseben among ler victims. Two of her daughters. Alster Tress and Bcllefontaiiic. won good races in England. Her racing was done under the name of - Sidney Fir.ot. bet in reality sbe was always the property of J. B. llaggiu.
