HA WTHORNE TURF NOTES AND OTHER NEWS ITEMS OF INTEREST Owner C. Irby reports Rising Rock, which was taken down with lung fever in transit here, much improved. The Illinois Jockey Club is endeavoring to frame a ,000 Handicap for Saturday, October 7. Several eastern and southern owners have wired their willingness to send stake material here, providing enough high-class horses can be secured to make the race i a real contest. Owner Jefferson Livingston has been asked for the services of his good campaigner Firebrand, and it is believed i by officials of the Illinois Jockey Club that a well-matched field can be brought together for Saturdays feature. Jockey P. Poirier arrived today from Toronto. Joe Hess of Cincinnati and John Swigert of Los Angeles, Cal., were among the Tuesday arrivals at Hawthorne. B. A. Jones, a prominent breeder of Par-nell, Mo., is an arrival at Hawthorne. Mr. Jones is one of the oldest and best-known breeders in the West. Among some of the recent horses bred by him are Seths Lemon and Mark Denunzio. Starter George T. Miller added the following horses to the schooling list this morning: Fernandos, Deland and Madrono. ; i
