CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF The latest rumors from California are that Tanforan will not be ready for racing on January 1 and the opening will be deferred to Washingtons birthday, February 22. Commander Colin bled and dropped dead during the running of the fifth race at Maple Heights Monday. Jockey S. Wida, who had the mount, escaped with a slight gash on the face and a good shaking up. J. W. Healey, acting for A. C. Bostwick, claimed Knight of the Heather from W. V. Casey following his winning race Friday at Havre .de Grace for ,100. The horse will be pointed for the steeplechase field.
