FIRST WEEK PURSES 0,500 Valuable Prizes for Horsemen Offered at Dade Park. Governors Handicap Scheduled to Be Run Saturday, August 19 Stable Applications Heavy. OWENSBORO, Ky., July 26. A total of 0,500 is offered in purses for the first seven days of racing at Dade Park, the meeting 1- opening Saturday, August 12, and continuing through September 9. The first condition book was issued from the Owensboro offices of the Dade Park Jockey Club this week. The Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at six furlongs, carries a purse of ,000 and will attract some of the best sprinters in training. The Kentucky State Convention of the American Legion will be in session in Owensboro, August 14 to 16, and on each of these three days the feature races at Dade Park will be in honor of the Legionnaires and the American Legion Auxiliary. More than 3,000 World War veterans are expected to attend the convention. James C. Ellis, president of the Dade Park Jockey Club, has announced that complimentary tickets will be issued to all of the vetcransand the members of the auxiliary who desire to attend the races at the Western Kentucky .wtrack. The Governors Handicap will be .run Saturday, August 19. It is for three-year-olds and over one mile, and calls for a purse of ,500. Governor Ruby Laff oon has signified his intention of being present when the race is run and will present a silver trophy to the owner of the winning horse. Applications for stables continue to be received from horsemen at all of the leading tracks in the country. With more than fifty horses already at Dade Park, additional trainloads of the thoroughbreds were unloaded at the track early this week. 1
