STEFAN THE GREAT IS DEAD Well Known Sire, Which Stood in IT. S. for Several Years, Passes Away in England. Special Correspondence. LONDON, England The stallion Stefan the Great died at the Egerton Stud recently from an internal complaint. He was nineteen years old. A son of The Tetrarch Perfect Peach, Stefan the Great won the Middle Park Plate as a two-year-old and the Stockbridge Stable had hopes of his winning the Guineas, but he strained a fetlock in the classic and did not race again. Joseph E. Widener acquired the horse from the late Mr. Lionel Robinson and Mr. Wm. Clark. After three seasons at the stud here he was sent in 1923 to U. S. A., returning to the Egerton establishment in 1930. Stefan the Greats stud record in the United States includes the winners of 353 races from 1926 to 1935, wth a total of 19,-269 won by his progeny. His best offspring in the country, were Valenciennes, Novelist, Kopeck and Jean Valjean.
